Songify is storming up the App Store charts. Why? Because it’s a dead-simple instant songifier, that’s why.

All you do is speak into your iPhone, and Songify turns your words into a song in about four seconds flat. You can email your song, share it on Facebook and Twitter, and generally have a laugh. The app is free, and comes with three simple backing tracks – if you want more tracks, you pay for them in bundles for a dollar a time.

But. Is it actually any good? Can you download Songify and take on Springsteen? I decided to find out.

I recorded three songs. In order, then:

Track 1: This is a review of Songify

Track 2: Do all Songify songs sound the same?

Do all Songify songs sound the same? (mp3)

Track 3: It’s not exactly Radiohead (but what did you expect?) (remix)

Not exactly Radiohead is it? (mp3)

I’ve just signed a deal with one of the major labels. The album will be out before Christmas and we’ll be touring every major city in the world, with U2 as support. Can’t wait.

So where is the review? I don’t see a verdict or a page 2 or anything.

Ha ha.  That’s lots of fun, but gee, even with songify, let’s talk lyrics here… So even if the songs don’t all sound the same, whatsup with those lyrics?

  6. Andy Murdock says:

Like most apps, that was fun for about 2 seconds, then the regret of lost time and money sets in.

Agreed – the fun doesn’t last for long. At least you don’t have to pay to try it out, though.

Anything too stupid to be spoken is sung.

  9. Simon Hathaway says:

For best results, say the sentence “Mum, mum, please can we have chips and beans for tea please mum, and please can Eddy come round for tea please mum? I love you mum…”

    It sounds hilarious!!!

The usual idea is that you would use NFC to set up the link between the two devices and then do an automatic hand over to a different protocol for doing the actual transfer of data – eg Bluetooth, iphone 5

there’s in-app purchases for more instrumental tracks, and it’s addictive enough that you might buy em.
