Japan Display will supply OLED screens for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 5, according to a new report.
This will be the Japan Display’s first foray into OLED screens. The deal is said to be a “breakthrough” for the company, which has been suffering as a result of Apple’s move from LCD to OLED displays for the iPhone.
Apple Watch ECG debuted in Germany last week. Photo: Apple
The electrocardiogram (ECG) feature of the Apple Watch was only turned on last week in Europe there’s already a report of it discovering a serious heart condition in a German man.
This is exactly what it’s intended to do: find heart problems for which there are no obvious symptoms.
Apple’s entire line of products are on full display in the company’s brilliant new ad that also features a patented Apple pizza box.
The new video, which clocks in at just over three minutes long, shows a team of low-level corporate workers using Macs, iPads, iPhones and Apple Watch to execute a moonshot idea that could get them the promotions they’ve been dreaming off. Apple’s software shines just as bright as the hardware while the team races to finish their project ahead of schedule.

It’s been about 1.5 years since Apple titillated fans by revealing a wireless charging mat that supposedly would charge not one, not two, but three Apple devices at the same time.
Frankly, it looked too good to be true at the time. And after a year of avoiding the subject, Apple confirmed today that AirPower will never caress the backside of your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time.
This is an unofficial guide to why AirPower failed.
Apple Watch Series 3 has never been cheaper. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac

The ECG feature of the Apple Watch Series 4 isn’t just for Americans any more. Photo: Apple
After debuting in the United States last fall, the Apple Watch Series 4 electrocardiogram (ECG) feature is available to Europeans, at last.
The ability to monitor the electrical activity of the wearer’s heart just debuted in 20 additional countries, and only requires upgrading to watchOS 5.2.
Unravel will keep tight rein on charging devices. Photo: Ampere
Charging solutions are the foot soldiers in our growing army of devices. They’re just expected to work and don’t get full-throated praise we lavish on the iPhone or Apple Watch.
But that could change with a wireless charger called Unravel, a misleading name for a versatile gadget that cooly and simultaneously charges an iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch.
Evidence suggests that the watchOS 5.2 update will finally make the ECG app available in a number of new regions. It remains exclusive to the U.S. for now.

The iPhone coming this fall will of course be able to receive power wirelessly, but it won’t stop there: it’ll also reportedly transmit it. This would allow an Apple Watch to be charged just by placing its on iOS handset.
This upcoming device will also reportedly get one of the benefits of USB-C while still holding onto the Lightning connector.

Apple Watch will keep tabs on your heart rhythm. Photo: Apple
Stanford scientists have declared that the Apple Watch is capable of safely identifying the heart rate irregularities known as atrial fibrillation. This is a big step in the Apple Watch being taken seriously as a medical device. A-fib is the leading cause of stroke and hospitalization in the United States,
The research was based on a virtual study involving upward of 400,000 participants. The work was funded by Apple.

It’s not easy to give up your iPhone. Even if you’ve already decided you want to switch to another handset, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to let go. Apple has you locked in. And for some iPhone owners, there is no way out.
That’s because it’s not just your iPhone that you’d be saying goodbye to. Many other apps and services you use every day — some without even thinking about it — make switching to another platform nearly impossible.
Here are all the ways Apple makes it hard to jump ship and switch to Android.

You don’t have to be an iron man or iron maiden to prefer some metal in your life, especially around your wrist. The Cult of Mac Watch Store has several metal Apple Watch bands available, from the affordable ($40 for a Rilee & Lo) to the high-end ($149 for a Juuk). Rush to check out a selection of these metal bands below.
Max out your aerobic fitness with Apple Watch. Photo: Graham Bower/Cult of Mac
Want to know how fit you really are? Apple Watch provides loads of insightful metrics you could check. So many, in fact, that there is not enough space for them all in the Workout app. Instead, you’ll find much of this crucial data buried away in the Health app on your iPhone.
One of the most interesting is VO2 max, which is basically the ultimate test of your aerobic fitness. If you’re into endurance sports, VO2 max is a metric you’ll want to check out.
Here’s a quick guide to everything you need to know about VO2 max on Apple Watch: What it is, how to use it, and how to improve yours.

If you make high-quality products that everyone wants, there is the risk that the demand for your goods exceeds supply. On one hand that’s good (hey, we’re selling a lot!). On the other hand, that’s bad (why can’t I buy this?).
Such is the case with France-based Clessant, one of our favorite Apple Watch band makers. Fortunately, several Clessant bands that have been unavailable are now back in stock, ready to make your Apple Watch even more special. Check out the models below, featuring buffalo, ostrich and goat leather. All are available at the Cult of Mac Watch Store while supplies last.
Apple gives supply chain workers access to coding classes. Photo: Apple
Apple came out with its 13th annual Supplier Responsibility Progress Report, giving an inside glimpse at some of the biggest issues it’s been battling.
The 66-page report is stuffed with interesting little facts, like how many gallons of water suppliers have saved and the amount of reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Apple admits it still has a lot of work to do, but the progress the company has made is pretty impressive. One of the biggest areas Apple emphasizes in its report is the people that work in the supply chain and the educational opportunities Apple is giving them.

If you’ve got an Apple Watch and want to change things up, it’s quite easy to change the face. But if you want more, you’ve got to change the band.
The mechanical part is easy; it’s the acquisition that can be a bit taxing. Looking good doesn’t have to be expensive, though. Check out our selection of bands that go for less than $40, including items from CarterJett, Rilee & Lo, and Nyloon.
Apple needs to add these features. Photo: Matt Birchler
The grand unveiling of watchOS 6 is probably just three months away, but a cool new concept from Matt Birchler suggests some simple features that will hopefully get added in time for Apple Watch lovers.
In his annual watchOS concept, developer Matt Birchler lists all the ways Apple could make the Apple Watch platform even better. Most of the suggestions are pretty simple, such as always on watch faces, and would be easy for Apple to add. Hopefully, Apple’s software engineers are taking notes of these ideas.
