Apple Watch product line could split in two this year

Apple will reportedly release two different next-gen Apple Watch devices, according to a well-connected analyst.

In a note sent to investors over the weekend, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims Apple will launch a slight iterative improvement on the Apple Watch later this year, boasting the same overall design but an improved 16nm processor and improved waterproofing. However, really keen Apple Watch enthusiasts will also be able to get the Apple Watch 2, which will reportedly add a host of other improvements.

Its new filing for a “Wearable Device” uses not one but many sketches of Apple’s popular smartwatch, complete with digital crown and all the same straps.

The second-generation Apple Watch is set to adopt new “One Glass Solution” technology for its display, according to the latest rumor out of Asia.

Apple is set to start selling new Apple Watch bands to coincide with the Olympic Games — although you’ll have to travel to Brazil to get your hand (well, wrist) on them.

The nylon straps take the form of national flags for all 14 major competitors. They will be going on sale in August, but only from the the VillageMall Apple Store in Barra da Tijuca, and presumably just for the duration of the Olympics.

Apple was hit with a new class action lawsuit today in California by customers who have purchased the company’s AppleCare and AppleCare+ plans to cover damages on iPhones and iPads.

At the heart of the lawsuit is Apple’s long-held policy to replace broken devices with units that the company claims are good as new in performance and reliability, even though they’re second-hand refurbished models.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has spent the past few days hanging out with the biggest figures in tech and media during the Sun Valley Idaho conference, but apparently not everyone in town has heard of Tim’s preferred way to pay for coffee.

During a visit to a local coffee shop, Cook reportedly tried to use Apple Pay which allows iPhone and Apple Watch owners to make transactions wirelessly. Even though the tech debuted two years ago, Tim ran into a roadblock when he busted out his iPhone to take care of the check.
